KAS pursuing ‘win-win’ with local residents
Korea Airport Service responds to opponents

The Korea Airport Service is try quell a furor among local citizens that arose after it began using more of the island’s groundwater, saying it is pursuing a “win-win” policy with them.

The KAS pointed out that it had been authorized to use local water for commercial purposes before the establishment of the Jeju Special Law. That’s the law that gives the island its semi-autonomy. The KAS also said that the Supreme Court had determined that its use of Jeju groundwater did not adversely impact the public management of the resource.
 
It maintained that its use of the water was in accordance with the law and that it had no further plans to increase its usage, adding that it would spare no effort to work together in harmony with the people of Jeju.

지하수 증산을 놓고 도내 시민사회단체의 반발이 커지고 있는 가운데 한국공항 측이 '제주도와 상생하겠다'며 진화에 나섰습니다.

한국공항은 오늘 공식 입장자료를 통해 제주특별법 이전부터 한국공항에서 먹는샘물 사업을 허가받았다며 대법원도 지하수 공적관리에 위배되지 않는다는
판결을 내린 바 있다고 주장했습니다.

그러면서 한국공항이 적법한 절차에 따라 먹는샘물 사업을 진행하는만큼 추가적인 증량계획은 없다며 제주도와의 상생을 위한 노력을 게을리 하지 않겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
