Jeju City cattle again certified free from brucellosis
Region remains ‘clean’ for 14th straight year

Jeju City has remained free from an infectious disease in cattle called brucellosis for the 14th straight year.

The city sent inspectors to some 370 farms in the city that raise Korean cattle between March and June. All tests for the disease came back negative.

Jeju City was declared free from brucellosis in December 2003.

Brucellosis occurs from contact with animals carrying Brucella bacteria. It can infect domestic animals like cattle and it can spread to humans.

제주시가 소 브루셀라 특별검진 결과 음성으로 판정돼 14년째 소 전염병 청정 지역을 유지하게 됐습니다.

제주시는 지난 3월부터 지난달까지 370여 개 한우 사육농가를 대상으로 특별검진을 실시한 결과 모두 음성으로 판정됐다고 밝혔습니다.

이에따라 지난 2003년 12월 소 전염병 청정지역을 선포한 후 14년째 브루셀라병 청정지역을 유지하게 됐습니다.

제2종 가축전염병인 소 브루셀라병은 소 결핵병과 함께 사람과 동물에게 모두 감염되는 대표적인 질병입니다.
