Warming waters threaten aquafarms
Mass fish die-offs likely if temperature surpasses 27 degrees

Warm currents are raising the temperature of local waters, so local officials are warning fish farmers to take all possible measures to ensure that doesn’t affect their businesses.

Farmed fish eat less when the water they are in becomes warmer. Officials say that to minimize problems, farmers should adjust the amount of feed and inject cool groundwater into the pools when they feed the fish.

The temperature in waters around aquafarms on the island is hovering around an average of 23 degrees. If it surpasses 27 degrees, officials expect mass fish die-offs due to falling immunity levels.

고수온 해수 유입 우려, 양식장 피해 주의

여름철 고수온 해수 유입으로 양식장 피해가 우려됩니다.

이에 따라 제주특별자치도는 양식어류의 경우 수온이 높으면 먹이 섭취량이 줄기 때문에 사료 투입량을 조절하고 지하해수와 혼합해 적정 수온을 유지해야 피해를 막을 수 있다고 당부하고 있습니다.

현재 도내 양식장 일대 수온은 23도 내외로 평년수준을 보이고 있지만 바다수온이 27도를 넘으면 양식어류는 면역력이 크게 떨어져 집단폐사될 수 있습니다.
