Nambyeok Summit Trail reopening delayed
Officials will resume deliberations next summer
The provincial government has delayed the reopening of Hallasan Mountain’s Nambyeok Summit Trail.
The course was scheduled to open next March.
In its final report on the matter on July 18th, the Jeju World Natural Heritage Center said the reopening was unlikely to lead to significant physical or ecological damage. It did however agree with some civic groups that the environment around the trail needed to be preserved. It therefore concluded that delaying the reopening was a prudent move.
Provincial officials will again consider the issue after the release of research results on preservation efforts on the mountain. That research is scheduled for completion next June.
