Dwindling interest in Jeju vacations
Fewer survey respondents report plans to visit this summer

Jeju may be losing some of its shine as a summer vacation destination for Koreans.

That’s the conclusion reached by Sejong University’s travel industry research institute and Consumer Insight. They surveyed 4,500 people between April and June who had domestic travel plans this summer.

17.7 percent of respondents reported plans to come to Jeju. That’s 5.9 percentage points lower than last year.

The travel institute says people are opting for cheaper vacations this year compared to last, and that they want to stay closer to home.

제주도로 계획하고 있다는 응답자는 전체의 17.7%로 조사됐습니다.

이는 지난해 같은 기간 보다 5.9% 포인트 줄어는 것입니다.

세종대 관광산업연구소는 지난해보다 여행기간과 예산이 줄면서 장거리, 고비용 지역을 기피하고 있기 때문으로 분석했습니다.
