Typhoon Noru heading towards Jeju
Will hit island Monday if storm stays on current track

The fifth major storm of the year is now heading in Jeju’s general direction.

Typhoon Noru is relatively small, but relatively strong. It has a central pressure of 945 hectopascals and a maximum wind speed of 45 meters per second. It is now east of Okinawa, Japan and heading northwest.

If it stays on that track, the storm will begin affecting waters to the south of the island in the afternoon of August 6th. It would then hit the island on Monday the seventh.

The National Typhoon Center is warning area residents to be prepared, saying Typhoon Noru is bringing a lot of rain with it and that it’s packing a potentially powerful punch for the island.

제5호 태풍 '노루'가 매우 강한 세력을 유지하며 제주를 향해 북상하고 있습니다.

중심기압 945헥토파스칼에 중심부근의 최대풍속이 초속 45미터의 매우 강한 소형급 태풍인 노루는 일본 오키나와 동쪽 해상에서 북서진하고 있습니다.

지금 경로대로라면 오는 6일 오후부터 제주 남쪽 해상에 영향을 주기 시작하겠고
7일쯤 직접 영향권에 들 것으로 예상됩니다.

국가태풍센터는 이번 태풍이 많은 수증기를 유입한 채 매우 강한 세력으로 북상하고 있는 만큼 피해예방을 위한 각별한 주의를 당부하고 있습니다.
