Water restrictions begin Monday
No water every other day in 8 villages

Despite the typhoon heading our way, this summer has been exceptionally dry. So dry, in fact, that water restrictions go into effect Monday in some areas of the island.

The provincial department of water and sewerage will cut the water supply every other day to eight communities: (해안) Hae-an, (월평) Wolpyung, (금악) Geumak, (유수함) Yusuam, (소길) So-gil, (어음) Eoeum, (고성2리) Goseong 2-ri, and (원동) Wondong.

Those villages that are in eastern Jeju will lose water on even dates. Those in the west will lose it on odd dates. The cutoff will last from 4 a.m. until 4 a.m. the following day.

Officials are also considering limiting the water supply in urban areas during the early morning hours.

Water supplies in Jeju are extremely low. The (어승생) Eoseungsaeng Reservoir can accommodate up to 600-thousand tons of water, but it currently holds just 85,000 tons.

다음주부터 중산간 일부 격일 급수제

다음주부터 중산간 일부 지역에서 격일제 급수가 시행됩니다.

제주특별자치도 상하수도본부는 오는 7일부터 해안과 월평, 금악, 유수암, 소길, 어음, 고성2리, 원동 마을 등 8군데에서 이틀에 한번씩만 상수도를 공급하는 격일제 급수를 시행합니다.

동부지역의 경우 짝수일에, 서부지역은 홀수일에 단수조치가 이뤄지며 단수시간은 새벽 4시부터 다음날 새벽 4시까집니다.

특히 주요시내 지역인 경우에도 새벽 일부 시간대에 공급량을 조절하는 방안을 검토하고 있습니다.

최근 60만톤 규모의 어승생 저주시만 하더라도 현재 저수용량은 8만 5천톤에 불과한 실정입니다.
