New award for contributors to horse-related industries
Heonma Gongsin Kim Manil Award named in honor of Joseon-era Jeju patriot

A new award has been established in honor of Kim Manil, a man known for his patriotism and his donation of thousands of horses for war efforts during the Joseon Dynasty.

The Jeju branch of the Korea Racing Authority and the Heonma Gongsin Commemoration Service signed an agreement Wednesday at the Jeju office of Let’s Run Park to facilitate commemorative projects to honor Kim Manil.

Kim was a Jeju man who donated horses to the government when Japan invaded the country. For his efforts, he was granted the position of (숭정대부) “sungjeong daebu,” a first rank official.

The “Heonma Gongsin Kim Manil Award” will be presented to a person or organization with a patriotic spirit who has contributed to horse-related industries. Heonma Gongsin will oversee the nomination and selection process.

'헌마공신 김만일상' 제정…말산업 유공자 시상

수천 마리의 말을 나라와 조정에 바친 조선시대 '헌마공신' 김만일의 애국정신을 널리 기리기 위한 '헌마공신 김만일상'이 제정됩니다.

한국마사회 제주지역본부와 사단법인 헌마공신김만일기념사업회는 오늘 렛츠런파크 제주사무실에서 '호국영웅 헌마공신 김만일 기념사업 활성화를 위한
업무협약'을 체결했습니다.

헌마공신 김만일은 조선시대 임진왜란 등을 거치며 국력이 쇠락해지자, 마필 수천 마리를 군마용으로 헌상해 당시 헌마공신이라는 칭호와 함께 종1품인 숭정대부 품계를 받은 제주의 대표 위인 입니다.

헌마공신 김만일상은 이같은 김만일의 고귀한 애국정신을 살려 말산업 발전에 기여한 개인이나 단체를 발굴·시상하게 되는데수상 후보자 응모와 선정 등은 헌마공신김만일기념사업회에서 주관하게 됩니다.
