Third hottest summer on record
Only 2004, 2013 were hotter

This summer ? characterized by heat waves, tropical nights, localized downpours, and a drought ? is the third hottest on record.

According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration, there were 12 and a half days of heat wave and 41 and a half tropical nights between June 1st and August 20th. Only 2004 and 2013 were hotter.

The mercury in Jeju City hit 37 degrees on July 21st, the second highest in island history.

Forecasters predict average temperatures this fall, and they say one typhoon will likely affect weather conditions in the country.

"올 여름 역대 3번째로 무더워"

폭염과 열대야, 국지성 폭우, 가뭄이 번갈아가며 나타났던 올 여름은 유난히 더웠던 한 해로 기록되고 있습니다.

제주지방기상청이 발표한 여름철 기상특성에 따르면 지난 6월부터 지난 20일까지
제주지역에 발효됐던 폭염일수는 12.5일, 열대야는 41.5일로 나타나는 등 지난 2013년과 2004년에 이어 역대 3번째 무더웠던 것으로 나타났습니다.

특히 지난달 21일 37도를 기록한 제주시는 역대 2번째로 높은 기온을 보였던 것으로 분석됐습니다.

한편, 기상청은 다가오는 가을부터 평년과 비슷한 기온을 보이겠다며 태풍은 1개 정도가 우리나라에 영향을 미칠 것으로 전망했습니다.
