Inauguration ceremony for revamped public transport system
Changes go into effect Saturday

There was an inauguration ceremony Thursday morning at the Central Government Office for Jeju’s new public transport system, which goes live Saturday.

The attendees included directors of various organizations and institutions, the leaders of the bus industry association and bus companies, and new bus drivers.

Governor Won Heeryong said that the first major changes to the system in 30 years would have a profound effect on local public transport policies. He promised to do everything he could to secure the infrastructure the system still needs.

The new bus drivers vowed to drive safely and offer top-notch service.

After the ceremony, there was a 9.2-kilometer vehicle parade from the Central Government Office to Yeonsam-ro, the airport, and then back to the starting point.

제주 대중교통체계 개편 출정식이 각급 기관단체장과 버스운송사업조합, 버스업체 대표, 신규 운전원 등이 참여한 가운데 오늘 오전 정부 종합청사 주차장 일원에서 열렸습니다.

이 자리에서 원희룡 지사는 30년만에 이뤄지는 대중교통체계 개편으로 제주의 교통정책이 달라질 것으로 기대한다며 현재 부족한 인프라 확충에 최선을 다하겠다고 강조했습니다.

또 신규운전원들은 이번 대중교통체계개편에 맞춰 안전운전과 친절한 서비스 제공을 결의했습니다.

출정식에 이어 행사장을 출발해 연삼로와 공항을 거쳐 다시 행사장으로 돌아오는
9.2KM 구간에 대해 카 퍼레이드를 진행하기도 했습니다.
