‘Funding for important Jeju projects’
Money for April 3rd Incident, roadwork, etc.

In related news, one of Jeju’s representatives at the National Assembly says the national budget includes funding for many important projects in Jeju.

Kang Chang-il detailed some of the budget items that passed at the assembly Thursday. They include three billion won for the April Third Peace Foundation, 1.5 billion for the 70th anniversary of the incident, and nearly 1.4 billion won for the excavation of victims’ remains and the preservation of sites related to the incident. Another 15 billion was earmarked for the construction of a multi-level interchange to ease traffic congestion near the airport, and 9.9 billion won for the creation of a national cemetery on the island.

If the funding for the excavation of April Third Incident victims’ excavation comes through, that work will resume for the first time since 2011.

"주요현안 국비 반영"…유해발굴 7년만에 배정

제주의 주요현안사업이 내년 정부예산에 반영돼 사업추진에 탄력을 받을 전망입니다.

국회 강창일 의원은 오늘 국무회의를 통과한 내년 정부 예산안에 제주 현안사업이 상당수 포함됐다고 밝혔습니다.

주요내용을 보면 4.3 평화재단 출연금 30억원과 4.3 70주년 기념사업 15억원,
4.3 유적보전과 유해발굴사업 13억 8천만원, 제주국제공항 교통 혼잡구역 입체교차로 조성사업 150억원, 제주국립묘지 조성사업 99억원 등입니다.

특히 유해발굴사업은 지난 2011년 이후 예산배정이 이뤄지지 않아 중단됐던 터라
이번 예산안이 정상처리될 경우 7년만에 재개될 가능성이 커지고 있습니다.
