Circus company illegally left facilities standing

A circus company signed the lease agreement for this site with the landowner, the Korea Tourism Organization, and used it until July of last year.

However, the performance company has yet to tear down its facilities, even though the agreement between the two companies has terminated.

The ICC Jeju and the KTO couldn’t initiate the sale of the land because of the circus company’s refusal to follow an administrative order to remove its buildings.

This is why the planned construction has made no progress even though the construction plan was approved by the provincial council.

But now finally, construction work is expected to begin.

The ICC Jeju is preparing to enter into a contract with the KTO to purchase the land next month.

It is planning to begin construction between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020.

70 billion won has already been earmarked for the project.

The second convention center will have one underground floor and four floors above ground, and cover 39,000 square meters.

While Korea’s mainland convention centers have been expanding, the ICC Jeju has remained as-is since it opened in 2003. This fact alone makes it less competitive when it comes to attracting big-name events.
