Bus ridership up 9.5%
Big changes to system prove popular

More people are riding public buses since a system makeover on August 26th.

The provincial government says 445,000 people rode in the first five days after the changes. That’s 9.5 percent more than over the same period last year.

70 percent of the tickets sold were for adult riders. Adolescents bought another 16 percent and children’s tickets amounted to 1.8 percent of the total. The final 11 percent were riders using welfare transport cards.

49 percent of riders took Jeju City blue buses numbered in the 300s. Another 24 percent took blue buses numbered in the 200s. The next most popular routes were those served by green buses numbered in the 400s ? 10 percent of riders took those.

In Seogwipo, 6 percent more riders took buses numbered in the 500s, while ridership on its new express lines was up 3.5 percent.

대중교통 개편직후 이용객 9.5% 증가

대중교통 개편 직후 버스 이용객이 소폭 증가한 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주도에 따르면 지난 26일 대중교통 전면개편 이후 5일동안 버스 이용객은 44만5천여명으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 9.5% 증가했습니다.

이용자는 성인이 70%로 가장 많았고 청소년은 16%, 어린이는 1.8%, 교통복지카드 이용자도 11%를 차지했습니다.

노선별로는 300번대 제주시 간선버스 이용이 49%로 가장 많았고, 200번대 일반 간선버스 24%, 400번대 제주시 지선버스 10%로 순으로 조사됐습니다.

서귀포지역은 500번대가 6% 증가했고 새로 신설된 급행버스는 3.5% 증가한 것으로 집계됐습니다.
