Visit Jeju Year in 2018
Timed to coincide with 70th anniversary of April 3rd Incident

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the April 3rd Incident, a Visit Jeju Year proclamation ceremony was held Tuesday morning in front of the provincial office.

The attendees included the directors of area organization and relatives of April 3rd Incident victims.

The ceremony included a joint statement by Governor Won Heeryong, council speaker Shin Gwan-hong, superintendent of education Lee Seok-mun, CEO of the Korea Tourism Organization Jeong Chang-soo, head of the victims’ families association Yang Yoon-kyeong, the national commission of the 70th anniversary of the April 3rd Incident, and the incident commemoration committee. The statement explained that next year was proclaimed Visit Jeju Year in honor of the 70th anniversary of the incident because the signees see the incident as a model example of how citizens, government, and organizations can work together to resolve a historical issue.

The signees encouraged all Koreans to visit Jeju. In addition to enjoying the island’s more traditional destinations, they also want visitors to take in the sites and history of the incident, and take part in various programs related to it that are being prepared.

4·3 70주년 제주 방문의 해 선포식 열려

4·3 70주년을 맞아 제주 방문의 해 선포식이 오늘 오전 각급기관단체장과 4.3 유족회원 등이 참가한 가운데 제주도청 본관 앞마당에서 열렸습니다.

이 자리에서 원희룡 지사와 신관홍 의장, 이석문 교육감, 정창수 한국관광공사 사장, 양윤경 제주 4.3 유족회장, 4.3 70주년 범국민위원회, 기념사업위원회는 공동선언문을 통해 제주 4.3은 유족과 제주도민, 시민사회, 중앙정부의 오랜 세월 끝에 맺은 과거사 해결의 모범사례로 내년 70주년을 맞아 제주방문의 해로 선언한 이유라고 설명했습니다.

특히 4.3의 역사를 국내 다크투어의 대표적인 곳으로 육성하고 있고 또 다양한 프로그램을 준비하고 있다며 생명평화의 길에 전 국민의 제주 방문을 당부했습니다.
