Outdoor-grown mandarin crop projected at 439,000 tons
Smallest projection since estimates began in 2003

This year’s crop of outdoor-grown mandarins is expected to be the smallest on record.

The mandarin observation committee estimates a harvest of 439,000 tons ? the lowest since surveys began in 2003.

Experts say the low yield is the result of multiple factors. They cite a cold wave this year, thinning of trees by farmers, and biennial bearing ? mandarin orange trees have an irregular crop load from year to year.

It wasn’t all bad news, though. Sugar content is 7.2 degrees brix, 0.4 degrees higher than the normal over the past five years, while acidity is at its lowest point since 2011 - 2.51 percent.

이는 지난 2003년 관측조사가 시작된 이후 가장 낮은 생산량으로 간벌과 해거리 그리고 겨울 한파 등 기후적 요인이 영향을 준 것으로 보입니다.

또 당도는 7.2브릭스로 5년 평균치보다 0.4브릭스 높고 산함량은 2.51%로 지난 2011년 이후 가장 낮을 것으로 예측됐습니다.
