Lawmakers gather for policy development workshop
Discussions on projected major issues in next year’s local elections

Local lawmakers gathered Tuesday at Yeon-dong’s Howard Johnson Hotel for a policy development workshop.

The provincial council hosted the event and the Jeju Society for Local Self-government organized it. Members from each major political party and provincial council members made presentations regarding the agenda for next year’s local elections. Attendees then discussed the ideas from those presentations.

Participants included Kim Min-seok, a director at the Minju Party of Korea’s Institute for Democracy; Choi Hong-jae, an assistant director of the Bareun Party’s policy institute; and Lee Dong-ho, an assistant deputy director of the Liberty Korea Party’s Yeouido Research Institute. They spoke about how to expand the local government’s role and authority, how to make amendments that bolster government decentralization, and how to respond to national security challenges. They expected those issues to dominate next year’s elections.

이 자리에 참석한 김민석 더불어민주당 민주연구원장과 최홍재 바른정당 바른정책연구소 부소장, 이동호 자유한국당 여의도연구원 제1부원장은 주제발표를 통해 내년 지방선거에서의 최대 아젠다는 지방자치 확대와 지방분권형 개헌, 한반도를 둘러싼 안보환경이 될 것이라고 예상했습니다.
