Green mandarins pass tests for toxic pesticides
Researchers find miniscule amounts that pose no danger

Scientists say the island’s unripe mandarin oranges contain no harmful levels of toxic pesticides.

Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services tested citrus for 320 pesticide components. They randomly selected the fruit from 11 groves that have applied for shipping rights for the green mandarins, which some consider a delicacy.

Among the 320 pesticide components, researchers discovered miniscule amounts of 16. They maintain, however, that they pose no danger at those levels.
