Beauty products made from Jeju’s organic ingredients

This company formulates skincare products with locally grown ingredients.

It is about to launch a baby skincare line made of locally grown organic shiitake mushrooms and green barley.

The company’s goal is to cater to consumers who have chemophobia or fears of the potential adverse effects of synthetic chemicals.

INTERVIEW
Kim Dae-ung / Researcher, Skincare company
Products for babies are tested to see whether they irritate skin. We make sure they are made of ingredients that are good for your skin. We only use ingredients that are internationally accepted as non-harmful. The baby line is “Accredited by Jeju.”

"유해한 화학성분 피부 자극이 없는지 확인해야 하고 아기 몸에 좋은 유기농 성분으로 만들어졌는지 꼭 확인해야 합니다. 그래서 저희는 국제인증을 받은 원료들만 사용해서 만들었습니다. 제주 인증을 받은 화장품입니다.“

Its skincare line successfully met the criteria to be allowed to label the product “Accredited by Jeju”.

New label for locally-produced items made with local ingredients

The label “Accredited by Jeju” is allowed when skincare products contain at least 10 percent organic ingredients and are produced locally.

The label was created to support products containing locally grown ingredients. Some brands utilizing the image of the island do not use ingredients grown in Jeju.

INTERVIEW
Song Pil-ho / Representative, Provincial government
The accredited products are trustworthy and safe because the province checks the ingredients and production process.

"인증 기준에 적합한 제품들은 어떻게 생산됐는지, 어떤 원료를 썼는지, 안전한지를 인증하기 때문에 믿을 수 있고, 안전한 제품입니다. "

20 locally based companies and 8 companies headquartered on the mainland have received accreditation since the province introduced the system in May 2016.

The number of skincare makers interested in the accreditation is growing.

The province is encouraging more manufacturers to apply for the accreditation.

It announced that the system will maintain standards that positively reflect the image of the island.

“Jeju” is itself a popular brand in the skincare market.
