Main culprit for motor vehicle deaths: drivers breaking the law
47 deaths through July this year

Authorities say traffic law violations by drivers are to blame for the vast majority of motor vehicle deaths on the island.

Provincial police say 47 people had died on Jeju roads through this July. That’s 46 percent more deaths than during the first seven months of last year.

In cases where drivers were to blame, their legal violations accounted for 93 percent of the deaths. In deaths blamed on the victims, 75 percent were blamed on jaywalking, walking on roads, and similar causes.

올해 제주에서 발생한 교통 사망 사고 원인 대부분은 운전자의 법규 위반 때문으로 분석됐습니다.

제주지방경찰청에 따르면 올들어 지난 7월까지 제주에서 발생한 교통사망사고는 47건으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 46% 증가했습니다.

사고 원인은 운전자의 경우 교통법규 미준수가 93%로 대부분이었고 피해자는 무단횡단과 도로 보행 등으로 인한 사고가 75%로 가장 많았습다.
