New walking path commemorates April Third Incident
Opening ceremony for Gasi Village April Third Trail this Saturday

A new walking path has been created to commemorate the village of (가시) Gasi, which was rebuilt after forced evictions of all residents in 1948 as part of the April Third Incident.

The provincial government will hold an opening ceremony this Saturday for the Gasi Village April Third Trail in front of the Gasi-ri community center in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo. About 500 people, including area residents and members of the April Third Incident Victims’ Association are expected to join.

The path starts at the community center and passes eleven important and historical sites, including Goya Hill, where villagers once posted guards to protect themselves from outsiders.

지난 1948년 소개령으로 마을 전체가 사라졌다 재건된 제주 가시마을을 돌아보는 4·3길이 개통됩니다.

제주도는 오는 14일 서귀포시 표선면 가시리사무소 앞 광장에서 마을 주민과 4·3희생자유족회 회원 등 500여명이 참석한 가운데 '가시마을 4·3길' 개통식을 진행합니다.

가시마을 4·3길은 가시리사무소를 출발해 4·3 당시 마을 주민이 외부인들로부터
자신을 지키기 위해 보초를 섰던 고야동산과 한씨방묘 등 11개 장소를 돌아보는 코스입니다.
