Asbestos residue discovered at four schools
Among 35 schools from which substance was removed over summer

Tests have come back positive for asbestos residue at four island schools even after work to get rid of the hazardous substance.

Workers removed the asbestos from 35 elementary, middle, and high schools over the summer. According to an office of education report, it was still detected at Geumak and (어도) Eodo Elementary Schools, Sehwa Middle School, and Jeju Yeongji School.

The education office has since removed the residue from the institutions. It says it will take further measures if needed based on the results of air quality tests scheduled for October 18th.

도내 4개 학교서 석면 잔재물 발견

지난 여름 제주도내 4개 학교에서 이뤄진 석면 제거 공사과정에서 뒷처리가 부실했던 것으로 나타났습니다.

신창현 국회의원이 교육부로부터 제출받은 '석면잔류 조사 결과' 등에 따르면 지난 여름 석면 제거 공사를 한 도내 35개 초·중·고등학교 가운데 금악초와 어도초, 세화중, 제주영지학교 등 4곳에서 석면 잔재물이 발견됐습니다.

이에 대해 제주도교육청은 해당 학교에 대해서는 잔재물 처리를 마쳤고, 오는 18일 발표되는 공기질 측정 검사 결과에 따라 추가 조치를 취하겠다고 설명했습니다.
