1. Local lawmakers want more council seats
‘Jeju Special Law should be amended’

The provincial council wants the Jeju Special Law amended to increase the number of council seats ahead of next year’s local elections.

The council adopted a resolution to that effect Monday. Council member Kim Tae-seok had proposed it.

Lawmakers say the change is needed to decentralize power and further support area residents’ right to self-determination.

The council will send the resolution to the president, the National Assembly speaker, the minister of Public Administration and Security, and the Jeju governor.

도의회, '의원 정수 확대 특별법 개정' 촉구

제주도의회가 내년 지방선거 도의원 정수를 늘리는 내용의 제주특별법 개정을 촉구했습니다.

제주도의회는 오늘(16일) 열린 제355회 임시회 1차 본회의에서 김태석 의원이 발의한 제주특별법 개정 촉구 결의안을 채택했습니다.

의회는 실질적인 지방분권과 도민 자기결정권을 강화하기 위해서는 특별법 개정을 통해 도의원 정수를 도 조례로 정할 필요가 있다고 밝혔습니다.

채택된 결의안은 대통령과 국회의장, 국무총리, 행정안전부장관, 제주도지사에게 발송될 예정입니다.
