Household debt in Jeju tops \13t
Up 28% over last year

Household debt in Jeju has increased significantly.

According to the Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea, the total in August topped 13.04 trillion won - three billion won more than a year before.

That means debt here ballooned by over 28 percent over the year. That’s more than three times the national average of 8.6 percent.

Analysts blame the situation on the overheated real estate market. They say that led to a surge in loans for housing and land.

제주도내 가계부채가 크게 증가하고 있습니다.

한국은행 제주본부에 따르면 지난 8월기준 도내 가계대출 규모는 13조442억원으로 1년 전보다 3조원 증가했습니다.

특히 가계대출 증가율은 28.2%를 기록하며 전국평균 8.6%에 비해 3배 이상 높은 급증세를 보이고 있습니다.

제주도내 가계대출 증가세는 최근 부동산시장 과열과 맞물려 주택과 토지관련 담보대출이 급증한데 따른 것으로 풀이되고 있습니다.
