JTO wants to relocate duty-free shop to airport
New CEO argues current location limits sales

The new CEO of the Jeju Tourism Organization has officially announced his plan to relocate the JTO duty-free shop for domestic tourists to the Jeju airport.

Park Hong-bae made the remarks during a recent discussion program on CBS. He argued that the shop’s current location in the International Convention Center limits sales.

Mr. Park argued that the move could boost revenue to up to 30 percent of what the Jeju Free International City Development Center earns at its airport duty-free shop. That money, he said, could then be reinvested in Jeju to further boost local tourism.

Park added that he views the JDC as a public enterprise working for Jeju’s development. He said the JTO would work together to pursue the same goal, and not as a competitor.

최근 취임한 박홍배 제주관광공사 사장이 내국인 면세점 제주공항 이전 추진을 공식화했습니다.

박 사장은 최근 제주CBS 대담프로그램에 출연해 중문단지 컨벤션센터에서 운영하는 지정면세점의 경우 입지여건 등으로 매출 확대에 한계가 있다고 말했습니다.

때문에 제주관광공사 면세점을 공항으로 이전해 매출액을 JDC 면세점의 30% 수준까지 끌어올려 제주관광 마케팅 재원으로 사용될 수 있도록 하겠다고 강조했습니다.

이와함께 JDC에 대해 제주발전을 위한 공기업으로서 경쟁상대가 아닌 공생관계로 발전할 필요가 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
