Jeju: high employment rate, but low income
Seogwipo had nation’s highest employment rate in April

Compared to other regions of the country, Jeju has a high employment rate, but many workers are in low-paying jobs.

According to data released by Statistics Korea, Seogwipo had the highest employment rate in the nation in April - 70.7 percent. Jeju City had the fourth highest, with Dangjin in Chungnam and Naju in Jeonnam coming in second and third, respectively.

However, relatively few workers in Jeju were classified as managers or specialists. A significantly higher proportion were involved in relatively low-paying jobs in agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

제주 고용률 높지만 저임

제주지역 고용률이 전국에서 높은 수준이지만 근로자 상당수는 저임금을 받고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.

통계청 발표에 따르면 지난 4월 기준 서귀포시 고용률은 70.7%로 전국에서 가장 높았습니다.

제주시도 서귀포시와 충남 당진시, 전남 나주시에 이어 전국 4번째로 높은 고용률을 보였습니다.

하지만, 제주는 관리자나 전문가 비중은 낮고 농림어업숙련종사자와 단순노무종사자 비중은 전국 평균을 크게 상회하면서 임금수준은 열악한 것으로 나타났습니다.
