Fewer local students at JNU Teachers College
69% of new students in 2012, 22% last year

In more news from the education sector, there are fewer local students studying at the Jeju National University Teachers College.

One of Jeju’s representatives at the National Assembly, Democratic Party lawmaker Oh Young-hoon, sits on the assembly’s education committee. He says that only 26 of the 118 students who entered the college last year came from the island.

That’s 22 percent of new pupils. In 2012, Jeju students accounted for 69 percent of all new students at the college, so the proportion of locals there has dropped to just a third of what it was.

Meanwhile, the number of students from the capital region grew over the same period from 13 to 53.

제주대 교육대학 제주 출신 학생 '급감'

제주대학교 교육대학 입학생 가운데 제주출신 학생 비율이 크게 줄어든 것으로 나타났습니다.

국회 교육문화체육관광위원회 소속 더불어민주당 오영훈의원에 따르면 지난해 제주대 교육대학 입학생 118명 가운데 제주출신 학생은 26명으로 전체 22%에 불과했습니다.

이처럼 제주출신 학생이 차지하는 비율은 지난 2012년 69%와 비교해 3분의 1 수준에 그치고 있는 것입니다.

반면 지난 2012년 13명에 불과했던 수도권 학생의 비중은 53명으로 4배 이상 증가했습니다.
