Navy seeking \3.4b for construction delays on Gangjeong base

Analysts say the Navy’s case against Gangjeong residents who opposed its base in their community will likely be resolved through mediation.

The Navy is seeking 3.4 billion won in compensation from the villagers for delaying the construction of the installation.

During the second round of arguments Wednesday, lawyers for both sides asked Seoul Central District Court to set a date for mediation, saying that, while they had reached agreement on some of the general issues, there remained sticking points with the details.

The court accepted their request and set November 16th as the mediation date.

서울중앙지법 민사합의 14부는 국가가 강정마을 주민들을 상대로 낸 34억원대 손해배상 청구 소송을 조정에 회부했습니다.

정부와 주민 측 소송대리인은 오늘(25일) 2차 변론에서 양 측이 큰 틀에서 합의했지만 일부 이견을 좁히지 못한 부분이 있다면서 재판부가 조정 기일을 잡아
판단해 줄 것을 요청했습니다.

이에따라 재판부는 양 측의 요청을 받아들여 다음달 16일 조정 절차를 진행하기로 했습니다.
