Jeju not listed as ‘swine fever-free zone’
Province’s explanation for exclusion proves false

The World Organisation for Animal Health does not list Jeju as a swine fever-free zone, and critics are up in arms now that the provincial government’s explanation for its exclusion has proved false.

Local officials said in a Monday briefing that they could not re-apply for the designation because the agriculture ministry had not informed them of changes in the requirements. Those requirements were instituted in July 2013.

Ministry representatives denied that charge. They said they had notified the country’s regional governments of the changes at that time.

Local officials later confirmed that the agriculture ministry is correct and that it had notified the province of the changes.

이에 대해 농식품부는 해명자료를 내고 당시 공문을 통해 돼지열병 인증방식 변경 내용을 전국 지자체에 통보했다고 설명했습니다.

이후 제주도는 뒤늦게 해당 공문을 받았던 사실을 확인했다고 밝혀 논란이 일고 있습니다.
