The 8th Jeju French Film Festival has begun. Organizers say the dozens of films they have lined up, including 16 full-length movies, will provide a better understanding of French culture. Kim Minhoe reports.

We, as human beings, sometimes wish to leave our surroundings for an imaginary place when we get bored with daily life and its repetitions.

A film festival kicking off today is looking to fill just such an emotional hollow.

8th Jeju French Film Festival, November 7-12

The Jeju French Film Festival was established to give islanders the opportunity to learn about and enjoy French culture. This year is already the festival’s 8th iteration.

This year’s festival was planned in order to bring alive the value of cultural diversity. The festival will bring take you on a journey to a healing place.

"제8회 제주프랑스영화제는 프랑스 영화를 통해서 문화다양성의 가치를 돌아보자는 취지에서 기획됐습니다.또한 다른 세상으로의 여행을 할 수 있는 귀한 힐링의 시간이 될 것 입니다."

“Lost in Paris” is the festival opener, which will transport viewers to a far and exotic land.

16 full-length films will be screened during the six days of the festival.

“Frantz” and “Up for Love” among 16 full-length films

The movie ‘Frantz’ is about a young German woman whose fiance was killed in World War 1. ‘Up for Love’ is a comedy that deals with the relationship between love and, quite literally, height.

Cezanne et Moi is a historical drama that traces the lifelong friendship between two renowned 19th-century French artists - painter Paul Cezanne and writer Emile Zola.
The beautiful French scenery and the lives of the French people are of course different from those in Korea, but the situations in which people find themselves are much the same.

Jeju Film Crew Forum on Wednesday

On November 8, the Jeju Film Crew Forum will be held under the theme of “For whom are movies made?”

We’ve planned the forum in a way that we can listen to the filmmakers and share in their thoughts and difficulties.

"영화 현장에 있는 분들의 이야기를 들어보고 어려움을 공유해보고자 하는 자리입니다."

All of the movies are free, and they are being screened in old downtown areas of Jeju City, the Jeju Movie and Culture Art Center, Megabox Jeju, and Cafe (풍류) Pungryu through November 12.
