‘Support for Yerae project’ and ‘concerns about JTO’s plans’
JDC chairman gives press conference on first anniversary in office

The chairman of the Jeju Free International City Development Center has expressed both a strong desire to resume construction of the Yerae Resort Complex and concerns about the Jeju Tourism Organization’s plan to relocate its duty-free shop.

Lee Kwang-hee made the remarks from the provincial office during a press conference on his first anniversary in office.

He said the Yerae project was important and potentially effective enough to pursue, and that he would not give up on it in favor of another. Mr. Lee said he would find a way to proceed that satisfies both local residents and investors.

He insisted that the JTO’s plan to relocate its duty-free shop to the airport requires a thorough review. Mr. Lee said he was concerned because his organization, the JDC, gets its budget not from the national government, but from its duty-free sales. The JDC duty-free shop is in the airport.

최근 제주관광공사의 면세점 공항 이전 추진에 대해 부정적인 입장을 보였습니다.

이 이사장은 취임 1년을 맞아 제주도청 기자실에서 기자회견을 갖고 이같이 말했습니다.

휴양형주거단지 사업의 경우 중요하고 효과도 있는 만큼 현 시점에서 다른사업으로의 전환이나 포기는 생각하지 않고 있다며 지속적인 추진을 위해
지역주민, 투자자와 윈윈할 수 있는 방안을 찾겠다고 강조했습니다.

이광희 이사장은 또 JDC의 사업예산 전액을 국가세금이 아닌 면세점에서 발생하는 수익으로 운영하고 있다며 최근 추진중인 제주관광공사의 면세점 이전 추진에 대해서는 종합적이고 신중히 검토해야 한다고 주장했습니다.
