Governor ‘considering’ joining new political party
Looking for party that embodies ‘healthy and rational’ conservatism

The governor was asked several times during the recent provincial council session whether he was going to join a new political party, and he each time he declined to give a direct answer.

On Friday, Governor Won Heeryong said he was seriously thinking about which party will best be able to build public support for what he called a “healthy and rational” conservatism.

He said that his responsibilities as governor currently demand all of his attention and focus, and that he will continue thinking about and discussing the issue.

보수 야당 간 정계개편이 진행되는 가운데 제주도의회 도정질문에서 원희룡 제주도지사의 당적에 대한 질문이 잇따랐지만 원 지사는 고민하고 있다며 즉답을 피했습니다.

원 지사는 오늘(17일) 건강하고 합리적인 보수를 추구하는 입장에서 어떤 정당정치가 국민의 지지를 받을 수 있는지 포괄적이고 깊은 고뇌와 논의를 하고 있다고 말했습니다.

원 지사는 현재 도지사로서 행정의 책임을 다하기도 힘에 부치는 상황이라며
특정한 결론을 정하지 않고 차차 논의해나가겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
