‘Very likely’ that bird flu virus in Hado-ri is highly pathogenic
Authorities expand testing to include all island poultry farms

Authorities say it is very likely that the bird flu virus discovered in droppings at the Hado-ri, Gujwa-eup migratory bird habitat is the highly pathogenic strain.

The provincial government ordered tests, and researchers say it is the same H5N6 variant of the virus that has been discovered at a duck farm in Gochang, Jeonbuk and in wild birds in Suncheon, Jeonnam.

Final test results are expected within the next day or so. Authorities will institute a 21-day poultry transport ban if the virus is confirmed to be highly pathogenic.

The province has asked the Jeju Olle Foundation to either temporarily close trails near the migratory bird habitat, or create a detour around it for walkers. It will also begin testing birds at all island poultry farms for avian influenza.
