Private university admission fees to be phased out
Will be cut by 80% by 2022

Private university admission fees will be phased out between 2018 and 2022.

The Education Ministry and the Korean Council for Presidents of Private Universities reached an agreement on the issue.

Four-year universities with above-average admission fees must cut them by 16 percent annually over the next five years. That works out to an 80 percent reduction. The last 20 percent will remain as it was deemed to be necessary to cover expenses.

Universities with below-average admission fees will reduce them by 20 percent annually over the next four years.

The ministry also plans to add the remaining admission fee to tuition after the year 2022. The national government will offer scholarships in the amount of the remaining admission fee to help students pay for their education.

2022년까지 사립대 입학금 전면 폐지

내년부터 사립대 입학금이 단계적으로 줄어 오는 2022년엔 전면 폐지됩니다.

교육부와 한국사립대총장협의회는 입학금 제도 개선 협의를 벌여 이같이 합의했다고 밝혔습니다

이에 따라 입학금이 평균 이상인 4년제 대학은 실비인 입학금의 20％를 제외한 나머지 80％를 내년부터 5년 동안 해마다 16％씩 줄이게 됩니다.

입학금이 평균 미만인 4년제 대학은 4년 동안 20％씩 감축합니다.

교육부는 2022년 이후에는 입학금을 신입생 등록금에 포함하고 해당 금액만큼 국가장학금으로 지원해 학생 부담을 없앤다는 계획입니다.
