Ed. superintendent ‘accepts responsibility’ for student’s death
Local HS student Lee Min-ho killed while on field placement program

The superintendent of education has offered an official apology for the death of Lee Min-ho, a high school student killed in an accident while at a company doing field placement work.

At a Wednesday press briefing from the provincial education office, Lee Seok-mun said he fully recognizes his responsibility for the accident and he offered his sincere apology for the tragedy.

He added that his office is investigating the conditions of all field placement programs used by the island’s specialized high schools. Mr. Lee also said that students are now free to stay at school rather than go out for the program, if they so wish.

Finally, the superintendent said the office will release stricter guidelines for the programs next year. The new rules will go into effect in 2020.

이석문 제주도교육감이 현장실습 도중 숨진 이 이민호군의 사망사고와 관련해 공식 사과 입장을 밝혔습니다.

이 교육감은 오늘(29일) 제주도교육청에서 기자회견을 갖고 고 이민호군 숨진 사건에 대해 교육감으로서 매우 막중한 책임을 통감하며 진심으로 사과를 드린다고 말했습니다.

이 교육감은 교육청 차원에서 특성화고 현장실습 실태에 대한 전수 조사를 진행중이고 학생이 원할 경우 학교로 돌아올 수 있도록 조치했다고 덧붙였습니다.

이와 함께 오는 2020년 시행예정이던 강화된 현장실습 관리 지침를 내년부터 제주에서 전면 도입하겠다고 강조했습니다.
