UNESCO meeting in Jeju December 4-9
Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

A UNESCO meeting begins Monday in Jeju.

The 12th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is from December fourth through the ninth at the International Convention Center.

Representatives from 175 member countries, the UNESCO executive office, and NGOs will be among the expected 1,000 participants.

Committee members will discuss a number of issues important to the preservation of so-called “living heritage” around the world. They will also make decisions on proposed additions to the lists of intangible heritage.

This is the fourth time the committee has convened in Asia.

유네스코 무형유산위원회 다음달 제주서 열려

제12차 유네스코 무형유산위원회가 다음달 4일 제주국제컨벤션센터에서 개막해 9일까지 열립니다.

이번 회의에는 175개 협약국 대표단과 유네스코 사무국, NGO 관계자 등 1천여 명이 참가합니다.

이들은 지난 2003년 채택된 유네스코 무형문화유산보호협약의 이행을 촉구하고
보존 가치가 있는 유산의 등재 여부를 결정하게 됩니다.

무형유산위원회 회의가 아시아에서 열리는 것은 이번이 네번째 입니다.
