Researchers say this year’s outdoor-grown mandarin crop will be the smallest on record ? 410,000 tons.

The mandarin observation committee and Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services say there are an average of 570 mandarins per tree this year. That’s only 27 percent of the five-year average. Last year, there were an additional 200-plus per tree.

The fruit is bigger, though. The average weight is higher than the five-year average at 86 grams.

Finally, researchers say the sugar content is 9.7 degrees brix and the acidity is a bit lower than last year. They say that means overall quality is quite high.

제주도 감귤관측조사위원회와 제주도농업기술원이 올해 노지감귤 생산량을 조사한 결과 역대 최저치인 41만톤 내외로 관측됐습니다.

나무당 평균 열매수가 570개로 최근 5년간 평균의 27%에 머물렀고 지난해에 비해서도 200개 이상 적은 것으로 조사됐습니다.

반면 열매 한개당 무게는 86그램으로 최근 5년간 평균보다 무거워 상대적으로 대과비율이 높은 것으로 분석됐습니다.

당도는 9.7브릭스로 평년과 같고 산함량은 평년보다 다소 낮아 전반적으로 품질은 좋은 것으로 나타났습니다.
