Jeju-Incheon ferry route may reopen
Multiple firms expressing interest
Ferry operators are showing interest in reopening the route between Jeju and Incheon, which has remained closed since the Sewol ferry disaster.
The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries said Jane Ferry recently submitted a business proposal to run a vessel that would accommodate passengers and vehicles on the route.
Two other firms have also reportedly shown interest. The office will open a public search for ferry operators this month before selecting a company.
The Sewol ferry sank in April 2014 while enroute from Incheon to Jeju. 304 passengers and crew members died - many of them teenagers on a high school trip to the island. No ferry has sailed the route since then.
