‘Site feasibility study for 2nd airport will be redone’
Transport ministry bows to public pressure

The transport ministry has decided to redo both a basic plan and a site feasibility study for the island’s second airport.

Ministry representatives say the decision was based on the urgency of the project and an acceptance of the opposition to it.

They did not accede to opponents’ demand to speed up the feasibility study. They said there was no funding for it now, and that it would take two to three months to receive it. The ministry said it would therefore proceed in accordance with the original plan.

Ministry representatives say they will ask area residents to sit on an assessment committee for the project in order to ensure maximum local participation and transparency in the process.

"제주 제2공항 타당성 조사 다시 실시"

국토교통부가 제주 제2공항 건설사업에 따른 기본계획 수립과 타당성 조사를 다시 하기로 했습니다.

국토교통부는 반대주민의 타당성 재조사를 수용한데다 사업의 시급성도 고려해 이같이 결정했다고 밝혔습니다.

다만 반대위에서 제안한 입지 타당성 우선 시행의 경우 별도의 예산이 없는데다
발주에만 2,3개월이 걸리는 만큼 수용하기 곤란하다며 기본계획 절차와 함께 추진하겠다는 입장을 고수했습니다.

국토부는 향후 절차적 투명성을 확보하기 위해 국토부와 지역주민들이 검토위원회를 구성해 주민 참여를 최대한 보장하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
