Firefighters not equipped to handle blazes in high-rise buildings
Local fire department will get aerial ladder truck, helicopter next year

Analysts say fires pose a greater risk to local buildings with 15 or more floors.

A Tuesday safety seminar brought together representatives from the public, the government, and academia. Representatives from the Jeju fire department said that firefighters would struggle to extinguish fires and save lives from high-rises because the ladder trucks on the island don’t reach high enough. There are 51 buildings with at least 15 floors in Jeju.

The fire department will therefore introduce an aerial ladder truck capable of reaching a height of 70 meters as well as a firefighting helicopter next year.

제주에는 15층 이상 건축물이 51동 있지만 현재 보유한 고가사다리차는 고층에 닿지 않아 화재가 발생했을시 구조와 진화에 어려움이 있다고 지적됐습니다.

이에따라 제주소방서는 내년에 70미터 굴절사다리차와 소방헬기를 도입해 운영하겠다는 계획을 밝혔습니다.
