Seongsan Sunrise Festival begins December 30
Organizers seeking permission to open crater to public

The 25th Seongsan Sunrise Festival will be held around Seongsan Sunrise Peak from December 30th through January first.

The theme is “Seongsan Sunrise, Beginning of a New Era.”

14 villages are taking part in the event. They are readying a variety of programs and activities for festival goers, including village tours, Jeju “haenyeo” demonstrations, and a night market.

Organizers are also seeking permission to open the peak’s crater to the public to commemorate the tenth anniversary of UNESCO adding it to its list of World Natural Heritage.

성산일출제 30일 개막…분화구 개방 추진

성산일출축제가 '성산 일출, 새 시대의 개막'을 주제로 오는 30일 개막해 사흘 동안 성산일출봉 일원에서 펼쳐집니다.

올해 25회째를 맞는 이번 축제에는 14개 마을이 참여해 성산읍 전역에서 마을 탐방과 해녀물질 공연, 풍물야시장 등 다양한 프로그램을 진행하게 됩니다.

특히 세계자연유산 등재 10주년을 맞아 지난 2000년 이후 17년 만에 처음으로
축제 기간에 성산일출봉 분화구를 개방하기로 하고 문화재청에 허가를 요청했습니다.
