Navy will waive compensation claim for construction delays

The national government has accepted a court’s mediation plan regarding the naval base in the village of Gangjeong.

The navy has been seeking 3.4 billion won for construction delays caused by local residents who opposed the installation. Prime Minister Lee Nak Yeon said during a Tuesday meeting that the government would withdraw its right to indemnity and forego seeking the compensation.

The court’s plan also means neither side will admit fault in the matter.

The navy is now expected to make an official announcement on the withdrawal of its claim.

정부, 강정 구상권 법원 조정안 수용…철회 수순

정부가 강정 해군기지 구상권 청구와 관련된 법원 조정안을 수용했습니다.

정부는 오늘(12일) 이낙연 국무총리 주재로 국무회의를 열고 해군기지 구상권 청구 소송에 대한 법원의 강제 조정 결정문을 별도의 이의신청 없이 수용하기로 결정했습니다.

조정안에는 정부측과 주민들이 서로 민형사상 책임을 묻지 않겠다는 내용이 포함된 것으로 알려졌습니다.

이에 따라 해군은 조만간 구상권 청구소송 철회 입장을 밝힐 것으로 보입니다.

해군은 해군기지 공사를 방해했다며 주민과 반대활동가 등을 상대로 34억원대 구상권 청구소송을 제기했습니다.
