Local political parties support Seoul’s decision

In related news, representatives from across the political spectrum in Jeju have welcomed the national government’s decision to waive its right to indemnity for navy base construction delays.

The Minjoo Party of Korea says the decision should be the basis for resolving conflicts and restoring the local community in Gangjeong. Minjoo representatives added that they hoped Seoul would issue special pardons to the base opponents who were punished for their activities.

Other parties, including the Bareun Party and the People’s Party, also said that the decision was valid and that it would be remembered as a monumental shift that ends conflicts and brings area residents together.

정부가 강정 해군기지 구상권 청구를 철회하기로 결정한 가운데 제주도내 정치권이 일제히 환영의 뜻을 밝혔습니다.

더불어민주당 제주도당은 오늘(12일) 논평을 내고 구상권 철회는 강정마을 갈등 해결과 공동체 회복의 전기가 돼야 한다며 앞으로 사법처리 대상자 사면과 강정마을 공동체가 화합으로 거듭나길 기대한다고 밝혔습니다.

국민의당과 바른정당도 논평을 통해 구상권 철회 결정은 당연한 것이라며
갈등과 반목의 종지부를 찍고 갈등 치유와 도민 통합의 전기로 기록될 것이라고 강조했습니다.
