Diverse April Third Incident educational projects
Next year is 70th anniversary

The Jeju Provincial Office of Education has planned a number of projects to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the April Third Incident next year.

Superintendent Lee Seok-mun said in a Tuesday briefing that his office would offer April Third Incident courses to 1,000 teachers across the country. He said that would help people nationwide, and eventually across the wider world, understand the gravity of the incident.

The office will push schools to design trips around education about the incident. Next year’s Jeju International Symposium on Education will also focus on the tragedy, as well as the wider issues of peace and human rights.

Finally, the local education office will set standards on how to present the April Third Incident in authorized textbooks and pass those standards on to the education ministry.

제주도교육청이 내년 제주4.3 70주년을 맞아 '평화인권교육으로 여는 4.3 100년의 원년'을 주제로 다양한 교육 사업을 추진합니다.

이석문 교육감은 오늘(12일) 교육청 기자실에서 브리핑을 열고 '4.3의 전국화와 내면화, 세계화'를 위해 내년 전국 교사 1천명을 대상으로 제주에서 4.3에 대한 직무연수를 실시한다고 밝혔습니다.

이와함께 4.3 역사교훈 수학여행단을 유치하고 내년 교육국제심포지엄에서도
4.3과 평화인권 교육을 다루기로 했습니다.

특히 내년 초에는 4.3 진상보고서를 근거로 하는 검인정 역사교과서 집필기준을 마련하고 교육부에 전달할 계획입니다.
