Regular session of provincial council ends
Navy’s decision not to pursue compensation ‘welcome news’

The 356th regular session of the Jeju provincial council ended with its seventh full meeting of the year.

In his closing remarks, Speaker (고충홍) Ko Chung-hong said the navy’s decision to waive its right to compensation from base opponents in Gangjeong was the result of the island community working together toward a common purpose. He added that similar cohesion is necessary to resolve more island issues next year.

In his remarks, Governor Won Heeryong said he would work to secure amnesty for navy base opponents as soon as possible.


도의회 정례회 폐회…"구상권 철회 환영"

제주도의회 제356회 정례회가 7차 본회의를 끝으로 폐회했습니다.

회기 중 보궐선거로 선출된 고충홍 도의회 의장은 폐회사에서 해군의 강정마을 구상금 청구 소송 철회는 도민사회가 힘을 모은 소중한 결과라며 내년 한해도 제주 현안 해결을 위해 지혜를 모아야 한다고 말했습니다.

원희룡 지사도 인삿말을 통해 강정마을 주민들에 대한 사면 복권이 조속히 이뤄질 수 있도록 노력하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
