100+ projects to mark 70th anniversary of April Third Incident

The provincial government is planning over 100 projects to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the April Third Incident next year.

Governor Won Hee-ryong joined other officials Thursday for a final meeting on the plans. They decided to move forward on 117 projects in five categories.

The list includes holding memorial services and a cultural event at Gwanghwamun Plaza, adding the incident to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, hosting discussions, and excavating victims’ remains.

The province boosted the budget for incident-related plans by 164 percent to nearly 1.7 billion won.

The national government has named 2018 “Visit Jeju Year” and the Moon Jae-in administration set the resolution of April Third Incident-related issues as one of the items on its 100-point national agenda. Analysts say it is aggressively working toward that goal.

내년 제주 4.3 70주년 제주방문의 해를 맞아 100개가 넘는 다양한 사업들이 추진됩니다.

제주도는 오늘(14일) 원희룡 도지사를 비롯한 관련 기관단체 관계자 150여 명이 참석한 가운데 4.3 70주년 제주 방문의 해 최종보고회를 열고 5개 분야 117개 사업을 확정했습니다.

주요 사업으로는 4.3희생자 추념행사와 광화문 4.3 문화제, 유네스코 기록유산 등재, 국민 대토론회, 4.3 희생자 유해발굴과 유전자 감식 등입니다.

사업 예산도 168억 4천여 만원으로 올해보다 164% 증액됐습니다.

4.3 70주년 제주 방문의 해는 문재인 정부가 국정 100대 과제에 '제주 4.3의 완전 해결을 포함하고 적극적인 해결 의지를 표명하면서 본격 추진되고 있습니다.
