Navy waives compensation claim for construction delays
‘Navy, base opponents should work toward healing Gangjeong community’

The navy’s compensation lawsuit against Gangjeong residents is over, one year and nine months after it was filed.

The navy was seeking 3.45 billion won for construction delays from opponents to its base in the village.

Seoul Central District Court’s 14th civil division finalized the result of its mediation on the matter Friday.

The court said the navy should drop its suit and that both plaintiffs and defendants should work toward restoring and healing the Gangjeong community, which was torn apart by the construction of the installation.

Prime Minister Lee Nak-Yeon announced during a cabinet meeting last Tuesday that the national government would accept the court’s mediation suggestions.

서울중앙지방법원 제14민사부는 오늘(15일)자로 제주민군복합항 구상금 소송에 대한 강제조정 결과를 확정했습니다.

법원이 내놓은 조정안에는 원고가 구상권 청구 소송을 모두 취하하고 원고와 피고가 강정 마을의 공동체 회복과 화합, 상생을 위해 노력한다는 내용을 담고 있습니다.

앞서 정부는 지난 12일 이낙연 국무총리 주재로 국무회의를 열고 구상권 소송을 철회하는 내용의 법원 중재안을 수용하겠다고 결정했습니다.
