Province seeking new UNESCO listing
Wants April Third Incident records recognized as Memory of the World

The provincial government will seek to register all remaining records of the April Third Incident as a UNESCO Memory of the World.

Next year is the 70th anniversary of the incident.

The province is seeking the UNESCO designation by the year 2020.

The materials for designation include trial documents from the period, police and army records, and US military records.

The province will recruit specialists next month to compose a committee that will begin work in February. That group will be responsible for discussing concrete measures to gain the UNESCO listing.

내년이면 70주년을 맞는 제주 4.3 기록물에 대한 유네스코 세계기록유산 등재가 추진됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 4.3의 세계화를 위해 2020년 4.3 기록물의 유네스코 세계기록유산 등재를 추진한다고 밝혔습니다.

등재 대상은 4.3당시 재판 기록물과 군경 기록, 미군정 기록, 무장대 기록 등입니다.

제주도는 이를 위해 다음달 관련 전문가를 채용하고 2월부터 등재추진위원회를 구성해 구체적인 방안을 논의할 계획입니다.
