Upcoming high school graduates basking in their freedom don’t have too much of a break ? those going to university already have to start thinking about what to study. Here’s Mike Laidman with some relatively unique offerings at Cheju Halla University.

4-year equine science program

These are students in the School of Equine Science at Cheju Halla University. It’s the nation’s first 4-year undergraduate course in the field.

The school includes the Department of Equine Resource Sciences and the Department of Equine Management Science.

The school focuses not only on practical techniques, but also includes classroom lectures so that students can better understand the whole of the equine industry.

Graduates can find jobs at equestrian centers, equine training centers, or horse farms.

More than 80 percent of this year’s graduates have already succeeded in earning positions in the equine industry.

The department of international tourism and hotel management of the college also offers a 4-year bachelor’s degree. It’s the island’s first 4-year course in this area, as well.

Unlike the previous 2-year course that was offered in the past and which only focused on cooking or coffee preparation, students can now take classroom lectures on overall business structure.

Students trained for middle management at hotels, restaurants

The department is looking to cultivate middle management for international franchise restaurants and hotels.

Vocational schools generally aim to improve students’ skills and techniques in certain areas, but the department of international tourism and hotel management will cultivate management skills though lectures.

For those who are interested in jobs in Chinese companies or international trade, studying at the department of international business opens doors, as investments in China and Chinese penetration into the Korean market are both increasing.

The department also offers a 4-year bachelor’s degree program with the goal of educating Chinese-speaking trade specialists.
