Jeju economy grew 6.9% in 2016
Fastest growth in the country
Economic growth in Jeju last year far outpaced that in the rest of the country.
Statistics Korea says the island’s economy grew by 6.9 percent in 2016. That’s a massive 4.1 percentage point difference over the national average, which was 2.8 percent.
The local construction sector led the growth with a 21.5 percent expansion. It was followed by 10.8 percent growth in wholesale and retail. On the other end of the spectrum, both the education and the business service sectors contracted 1.4 percent.
Per capita economic output in Jeju, though, was just 27.3 million won. That’s over 4 million won off the national average of 31.9 million.

통계청이 발표한 지난해 지역소득 조사결과에 따르면 제주지역 지난해 경제성장률은 6.9%로 전국 평균 성장률 2.8% 보다 4.1% 포인트
높았습니다.
교육과 사업서비스업은 각각 1.4% 씩 감소했지만, 건설업은 21.5%, 도소매업은 10.8% 증가하면서 경제성장률 상승을 견인했습니다.
반면 1인당 지역내 총생산은 2천 734만 원으로 전국 평균 3천 192만원보다 4백만 원 이상 적었습니다.
