Prices for outdoor-grown mandarins continue to rise
Up over 25% this month

In good news for growers, prices of outdoor-grown mandarin oranges continue to rise.

A ten-kilogram box of the fruit was selling for 15,000 won at the beginning of December. The Jeju Citrus Marketing & Shipping Association says the same size box is now going for 19,000 won.

That’s 40 percent more than at the same point last year. And it’s double the figure from 2015.

The Korea Rural Economic Institute says the combination of high quality fruit and the lowest harvest on record will likely keep prices high for the time being.

노지감귤 가격 고공행진…도매시장서 10kg 2만원대

올해 산 노지감귤 가격의 고공행진이 이어지고 있습니다.

제주도감귤출하연합회에 따르면 지난 23일 전국 도매시장에서 10킬로그램 상자당 평균 경락가격은 만9천원으로 이달 초 만5천원선에서 꾸준히 상승세를 보이고 있습니다.

이는 지난해 같은 기간보다 40%이상 높고 지난 2015년 9천6백원선을 기록하던 것과 비교하면 갑절 이상 올랏습니다.

한국농촌경제연구원은 노지감귤 생산량이 역대 최저치이고 품질이 좋아 당분간 높은 가격이 유지될 것으로 전망했습니다.
